Established in 2001, the Nong Khai Museum is the place to find out about the history of Nong Khai that’s situated local to the city centre and close to the tourist area.
Chao Mueang Nong Khai Museum
Nong Khai Museum is a small museum. It was the first city hall of Nong Khai and change to the museum for exhibits mostly photographs from temples, famous monks. Besides this museum was exhibit the old Chinese and Vietnamese communities as well as some traditional tools and swords, ceramics, pottery and items from the nearby archaeological site in Tha Bo.
Chao Mueang Nong Khai Museum is the house of the first governor in Nong Khai. “Thao Suwothamma” who was established Nong Khai and was a son of Thao Paeng who is a city clerk of Mueang Yasothon. He joined to combat and defeated the enemies in many encounters at that time then he received the royal appointment as a Pha Pathum Thewa Phiban (Thao Suwothamma – Bunma Na Nongkhai) and as the first governor of Nongkhai in 2370 B.E.
Getting there: Approximately 1km from the Tha Sadat market area, on the Mee Chai Road. A 10-minute walk or 40 THB tuk-tuk.
