Horse racing in Udon Thani, and indeed most parts of Thailand are not anywhere on a par with most other countries. In fact it is quite rare to even see a horse when visiting Udon Thani – all the same, Udon Thani does have a racecourse called the Entry to Intergames Park, which is located just outside the city, a little to the south east.
There are meetings every Saturday from 12 midday to 5.00pm. A race cards are available for 20 baht (in English or Thai) which lists all the runners and riders competing in 10 races. Udon Thani racecourse has a ‘grandstand’ in place where you can get out of the hot sun and an oval dirt race track.
Although under normal circumstance gambling is illegal in Thailand, there are Tote betting stalls under and behind the grandstand if the urge to have a flutter or two proves irresistible, and there are enough food outlets to feed a multitude here too. Naturally the food is Thai but the up-side is that the prices here are suited to the local Thai’s too.
Entry to the Udon Thani racecourse is free, as is the on site parking.
